Spotting Talent – Darts India way

About a year ago, one of our developers referred a candidate who was from interior Tamil Nadu. The candidate openly admitted he hadn’t landed a single job in over a year he thought it was because of his weak English. His confidence was shaken.

But when I asked him technical questions, his fundamentals were strong, his answers clear, and he was honest about what he didn’t know. For a fresher, that kind of clarity and humility is rare. I decided to fast-track him into the technical interview and he aced it. Within weeks of joining, he picked up a new technology, and today he’s working with our Architect on GenAI, still learning with energy and enthusiasm.

In another case, we recruited a tester who had previously worked with us on contract. As a young mother, she couldn’t work from the office, but within just a month she knew our complete product, streamlined the Jira process, and even started leading daily scrums. What impressed us most was how she always came prepared with data at hand and wasn’t afraid to admit her mistakes openly, instead of covering them up.

At IDarts, giving opportunities to showcase skills, rather than being judgemental has worked well for us. We believe, not being able to speak good English should not hold back hidden talent. It doesn’t always work out, but when it does, it’s deeply fulfilling like watching a bud bloom into a flower.

These experiences reinforced what we have always valued in hiring:

  • Potential over resumes and marks
  • Clarity and honesty over polished English
  • The right attitude always finds its way
  • Everyone deserves opportunities in their strong areas to prove themselves

For us, hiring isn’t just about skills it’s about spotting mindset, potential, and the hunger to learn.
